KARACHI, Sept 22: Over a 100 handicapped children had fun for over three hours at an entertainment programme organized at a club on Monday afternoon.

The function was organized by a social worker and noted artist Jimmy Engineer under his ‘Fun and Food’ programme for the handicapped children that he has been organizing, regularly at least once a month, for over a couple of years now.

Under the programme the social worker takes 100 handicapped children out to restaurant, hotel or club so that they could also enjoy and have fun, which their normal counterparts have as a matter of routine.

On the occasion, Jimmy Engineer urged the parents of the special children not to hide their special children, but to take them out so that they could have an opportunity to mingle with normal children.

He said that the communication gap between them (special and normal children) could be bridged through this activity with the passage of time.

This way, he said, not only the special children would get an opportunity to meet with the normal children, but the normal children would also be able to change their attitude with the special children.

He said that the special people were provided many facilities in the western countries, but they were not being provided even their due rights here.

He urged the philanthropists to come forward and assist the organizations that were serving the special people.

The children from Ida Rieu School and College for the Deaf and Blind, Darul Sukoon, Darul Khushnood, Asra Special School, Garage School, Hope and Faith, Aaghosh and Prewa participated in the function.

Students of the Ida Rieu School and College for the Deaf — Zainab, Tasleem, Sonia, Rubab, Komal, Afshan, Sohail, Ikram, Mohsin, Rubail and others led by their music teacher Master Riaz Hussain — enthralled their colleagues with national and folk songs. Many other special children danced on the music cum song presented by their colleagues.

A magic show was also organized on the occasion. The special children appreciated the magic and tricks shown by the magicians by clapping.
