DHAKA, Oct 30: Veteran communist leader and journalist Nirmal Sen, 76, has fallen seriously ill, while his condition remains unchanged for more than two weeks after he suffered a stroke which has damaged his brain partially.

Nirmal Sen is now undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

A CT scan of his brain showed some infarcts (dead area) in the right side of his brain, which control movement of the left side of the body.

He was admitted to the Community Hospital at first and later shifted to BSMMU on Oct 14 as his condition deteriorated further.

A nine-member medical board, headed by Professor Muhammad Tahir, was formed on Oct 19 for his special treatment.
