ISLAMABAD, Nov 16: A judicial magistrate on Sunday granted a seven-day physical remand of Islami Tehrik Pakistan chief Allama Sajid Hussain Naqvi to police, sources told Dawn.

The sources said Allama Naqvi was produced before the judicial magistrate Javed Bosal amid tight security.

He was arrested by Rawalpindi police on Saturday for his alleged involvement in the assassination of Millat-i-Islamia Pakistan chief Maulana Azam Tariq, who was gunned down in Islamabad along with his three guards and a driver on Oct 6.

The source said due to weekly holiday, Allama Naqvi was taken to the residence of the judicial magistrate where the judge granted his physical remand.

According to Golra Police which registered an FIR in the Maulana Azam Tariq case, four other central leaders of the Islami Tehrik Pakistan have been nominated in the case. These leaders are likely to be nabbed within next few days.

Allama Naqvi was arrested by Rawalpindi Police at his party’s head office in Sadiqabad and was later handed over to Islamabad police.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat said some other suspects had also been taken into custody in other cities in the same case.

The minister was reluctant to disclose their names, saying that it would affect the investigation if their identity was disclosed at this stage.
