KARACHI, June 30: Veteran Sindhi short story writer Jamal Abro died here on Wednesday night. He was 80. He made rich contributions to the Sindhi short story. After joining judiciary he could not write much, but did not detach himself from literature.

His funeral prayers will be offered at Sultan Masjid, Defence Society Phase-V, after Zuhr prayers on Thursday and he will be laid to rest in the Gizri graveyard. He is survived by four sons and three daughters.

Jamal Abro ranked among the pioneers of Sindhi short story and his collection, Pashoo Pasha, had set a new trend in Sindhi literature. His other books include four volumes of his autobiography. He also wrote articles on social issues, particularly on karo-kari.

During the last decade of his life, he had become a practising Sufi. After performing Umra, he had returned from Saudi Arabia a week ago and developed throat and chest problems.
