PESHAWAR, Nov 24: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has installed a 'personal identification secured comparison and evaluation system' (Pisces) at the Torkham border to curb incidents of terrorism.
According to official sources, the system was installed at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border at Torkham on Wednesday with the financial assistance of the US to check terrorism in the region.
The move was made on the special instructions of Interior minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and DG FIA Syed Mohib Asad. The Pisces system set up at various points on the Torkham border would also help the FIA develop electronic data of the people crossing the border through the facility of iris scanning, finger printing and electronic recording of their documents.
After the installation of this system, Pakistan has become the world's first country to have this advanced technology. It would help electronically document the travellers coming into and out of Pakistan into Afghanistan.
This system will not only help in checking scourge of terrorism, but also assist in the detection of suspected persons. Staff would be soon appointed at the Torkham border. A special three-day workshop was also conducted by the FIA for the immigration staff and the political agents as a new system was introduced.
