GILGIT, April 8: A landslides which had formed an artificial lake in a tributary of the River Hunza between Sust and Dhee villages along the Karakoram Highway on the Pakistan-China border, has ruptured and allowed normal flow of the river, according to reports reaching here.
Northern Areas Home Secretary Hafizur Rahman told journalists on Friday that there was a heavy possibility of flood in the downstream areas in case of a breach in the water body but the situation was now under control.
He said that swelling of the water body on Thursday had submerged the Karakoram Highway in upper Gojal and created a fear of flood. Therefore, they had declared emergency in Hunza and Nagar.
He confirmed that the danger was over.—Correspondent
