FAISALABAD, June 1: The district administration and police have heightened security here in the wake of terrorism wave across the country. Police commandos have been deployed at all sensitive places, including mosques, imambargahs and public places. Plainclothes men have been deputed inside mosques during prayer timings to keep a vigil on suspicious activities.
Closed-circuit televisions have been installed at the major mosques as well as busy commercial centres here.
The security has been enhanced at a meeting of the police officials, religious scholars and traders.
Chairing the meeting, DPO Muhammad Amin Wains stressed the need to reactivate peace committees at the police-station level to create a cordial atmosphere among the area people.
Special committees, comprising 15 members each, have been set up at police stations.
Meanwhile, Faisalabad Range DIG Sajjad Ahmad has asked the DPOs of Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad to disallow any unauthorized religious gathering in their respective areas.
Robbery: Robbers plundered gold ornaments worth over Rs1.5 million from a jeweller near Abdullahpur in People’s Colony Police Station precinct on Tuesday night.
Reports said jeweller Nazir Ahmad was going to his shop when four armed men stopped him near Abdullahpur, snatched the bag containing 140 tolas of gold ornaments and fled.
Led by information, the police teams started hunt for the robbers.
SHOT DEAD: Two industrial workers were shot dead by a hotel owner and his employees over a minor issue at Khurrianwala on Tuesday night.
According to reports, labourers Abid Ali and Mahmood Ahmad took some meal from a roadside hotel and complained to its owner about the poor quality of foodstuff. After an exchange of harsh words, the hotel employees shot them dead.
Khurrianwala police have registered a double murder case and started investigation.
