KARACHI, Aug 16: The caretaker of the city government, Fazlur Rehman, announced cash award, enhancing annual financial assistance of the Anjuman Tarraqi Urdu and renovation of the Mazar of Baba-i-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq.

The DCO made this announcement on Tuesday after offering fateha and laying chadar on behalf of the Karachiites at the Mazar of Baba-i-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq on his 44th death anniversary.

The CDGK caretaker on the occasion announced issuance of cash award, enhancing the financial assistance from Rs100,000 to Rs500,000 for the Anjuman Tarraqi Urdu and repair, renovation and replacement of tiles of the Mazar on behalf of the city government.

For this purpose, he said five cash awards were being issued and the amount of these awards would be determined later.

He however said that these awards would be given on research of science and technology, as well as on literary works.

The DCO said that the procedure of announcement of awards would be determined by a committee comprising writers and officials of the city government.

He also paid rich tributes to Baba-i-Urdu for the promotion of Urdu in the subcontinent.—APP
