LAHORE, Oct 24: The German Ministry of Economic Cooperation (BMZ) has approved the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (REEE) project for Pakistan. It was disclosed by Guntram Glassbrenner, an energy efficiency expert from German Development Cooperation-GTZ, in a meeting with Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority experts at Smeda head office on Monday.
Mr Guntram was accompanied by Martin Kruska, head Climate Change Services of EUTECH, a leading German company dealing in energy management.
He said that GTZ was interested to undertake a three-year programme basing upon the technical assistance with financial support for enhancing the scope of renewable energy and energy efficiency in Pakistan.
Main partners in this project are Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) and National Energy Conservation Centre (ENERCON) and Ministry of Environment, he said, adding that GTZ was keen to learn the real needs of SMEs for energy. He called for a close coordination with SMEDA for this purpose.
The current visit of GTZ experts has been arranged to develop a plan of operation through meetings and discussions on the bilateral issues with all stakeholders.
Earlier, SMEDA officials apprised the German experts about the sectors of SMEs needing to manage energy conservation.—APP
