ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Monday offered India full cooperation to India in investigating the terrorist attacks in New Delhi and said Pakistan was willing to go as far as conducting joint investigations.

The president made this offer first at his Press Conference here on Monday afternoon and later reiterated it during his 10-minute telephonic conversation with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

President Musharraf started his opening statement by condemning the bomb attacks in New Delhi, offering complete cooperation and unequivocal support from Pakistan in any investigation that India would like to carry out.

“I condemn this dastardly act of terrorism,” the president said, adding: “Pakistan stands with India on this act of terrorism which has been perpetrated in New Delhi. We condole with India, we condole with all the families of all the deceased in this terrorist attack.”

In response to a question the President refused to entertain any speculative observations or conclusions on involvement of any group in the Delhi attacks without complete evidence.—QA

Jawed Naqvi adds from New Delhi: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Monday condoled the deaths in Saturday’s bomb attacks in the Indian capital during a call to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who told him that Delhi expected Islamabad to take steps to curb terrorism, the Indian foreign ministry said.

“The prime minister received a phone call from General Musharraf this evening. The Pakistan President offered condolences for those who lost their lives in the terrorist bombings in Delhi on Oct 29 and the railway accident in Andhra Pradesh,” the Indian statement said.

“The prime minister told the President of Pakistan that the country was outraged at these heinous acts of terrorism. Violence against defenceless civilians can never be justified the prime minister said, and terrorism would never weaken India’s resolve, or our commitment to the country’s unity and territorial integrity.
