Victory Road triumphs

KARACHI, Nov 20: Making her maiden appearance, the three-year-old filly, Victory Road, enthralled the audience with her magnificent performance by winning the Eclipse Stakes Cup in the Winter Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Jockey Arshad rode the filly home in convincing fashion in a field of seven contestants. The race was restricted to Pakistani colts and fillies of three-year-olds.

Finishing second was Super Conqueror while Tharkyee settled for the third place.

In a closely-fought contest, the Golden Sleeper Stakes Cup was lifted by the two-year-old filly, Safari Queen, by half a length. She left Fast Burner and Moon Raker behind to settle for places.

Four-year-old filly, Fantastic Face, ridden by jockey Muhammad Essa, crowned the Karachi St Leger Cup in the 10-furlong race which had the shortest field of five runners.

The filly is owned by Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara and trained by Mumtaz Ali.

Jockey Abdul Aziz has become toast of horse riders which is evident from his consistent performance. He again proved his mettle by performing a treble - third in a sequence - to perform hat trick.

He started the day by riding three-year-old colt, King Of Kings, to victory in the second race followed by splendid triumphs of Safari Queen and Puma King.

Another jockey Ghulam Shabbir II also ended the day on a happy note with a double in two back to back races through Ouija Board and Silent Angel.

Meanwhile, the KRC withdrew the license of jockey Nadir Abdullah besides imposing a fine of Rs10,000 for unsporting riding of Sea Biscuit in the opener.

Punters feared foul play in the running of filly, Bright And Early, in the last race.
