OIC may adopt new charter: Musharraf

Published December 4, 2005

RAWALPINDI, Dec 3: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has hoped that the Organization of Islamic Conference will endorse a new charter in its upcoming summit in Makkah.

Talking to media people at Chaklala airbase before leaving for a six-day visit of Kuwait, Yemen and Saudi Arabia on Saturday, he said the approval of the OIC’s new charter was necessary for resolving problems confronted by Ummah.

He said the OIC summit in Makkah was the follow-up of its meeting in Kuala Lumpur, in which he had presented his theory of enlightened moderation after which its leaders’ commission formulated a draft of some proposals.

“I hope consensus will be evolved on the proposals,” President Musharraf said.

He was seen off by Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro, the vice-chief of army staff and high-level officials.

During his visit, the president will be accompanied by information minister, minister of state for petroleum and the EPB chairman.—Online
