KARACHI: Karachi Bar polls today

KARACHI, Dec 16: The members of the Karachi Bar Association will elect on Saturday their 21-member body, comprising six office-bearers and 15 managing committee members.

There are over 6,500 registered voters of the KBA. Nearly half of them are expected to cast their votes on the KBA premises to elect a 21-member body. The polling will commence at 9am and it will continue till 5pm.

The KBA election is a regular annual activity, which has been conducted regularly since the inception of Pakistan.

Munawwar Malik and S.M. Altaf have been appointed chief election commissioner and assistant chief election commissioner respectively.

Mehmoodul Hasan, Mashood Ahmed and Mohammad Aqil are the candidates for the post of president. Mehmoodul Hasan has been the KBA chief for the last two consecutive terms.

Abdul Wahab Ansari, Mohammad Nadim Qureshi and Shaukat Ali Cheema are contesting election for the office of general secretary. Amir Niaz Khan, Mohammad Arshad Khan Jadoon, Manzoor Ahmed and Tabbasum Sultana are the candidates for the post of joint secretary.

Five candidates – Hakim Ali Shaikh, Khurshid A. Siddiqui, Sarwat Israr and Mehmooda Qasim – are in the run for the office of treasurer. Ms Qasim is the sitting treasurer.

Abdul Hameed Yousufi, A. Karim Memon, Javed Chhatari, Mohammad Saeedur Rehman, Rehmat Hussain, Tanvir Ahmed and Yousuf Moulvi are in the run for the slot of vice-president.

Ghulam Asghar Sain and Shaikh Mohammad Suleman are contesting for the post of librarian.

There are 30 candidates for 15 seats of the managing committee. They are Abdul Hameed Khan, Abdul Khaliq, Abdul Latif Shaikh, Abdul Qadir, Abdullah Rajput, Banaras Khan, Farkhunda Arshad, Hamid Raza, Hasan Mehdi, Malik Abdul Latif, Malik Saleem Akhtar, Mohammad Rehan Qureshi, Mohammed Ali Khan, Mohammad Ashfaq Satti, Mohammad Aslam Khan, Mohammad Iqbal Baloch, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rafi Muzni, Mohammad Saeeduddin Siddiqui, Mohammad Salim Khan, Mohammad Yamin Fateh, Mohammad Yasin, Akhtar Ali Junejo, Muzammil Iqbal Qazi, Nadir Shah Babar, Nargis Fatima, Nasarullah, Rahila Khanum, Shahid Iqbal Rana and Syed Raeesul Mughis.
