Avalanche kills 24 in Kohistan

KOHISTAN, Dec 29: Twenty-four people were killed and one was critically injured when an avalanche hit them in the mountainous area of Sput Mali in the jurisdiction of the Jalakot police the other day.

According to reports received here, 25 people were going to Sput Mali to dig out precious stones and explore mines when suddenly an avalanche fell on them.

Rescue workers and local people rushed to the site and rescued one of them.

Police teams have been sent from here to recover the bodies from the site.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Salim, Shakoor, Abdul Qayyum, Mohammad Wakeel, Mohammad Azeem, Yasin, Abdur Rahim, Jahangir, Abdur Rehman Sahil, Mohammad Anwar, Malang, Suleman, Sonia, Mian Suon, Gul Badshah, Fazal Mohammad, Abdul Ghani, Qari Nowsherwan, Kifayatullah and Mohammad Qayyum. —-APP
