SUKKUR: Bridge collapses

SUKKUR, Jan 1: The Shahi Wah bridge near the Guddu Barrage collapsed and its four gates were washed away on Saturday, forcing irrigation authorities to stop water supply from the barrage. Two hours after gates of the Shah Wah were closed to supply water to Balochistan through the desert canal, the bridge collapsed and the Wah’s gates were washed away.

Irrigation authorities reached the area and stopped supply of water from the Guddu Barrage to the Shahi Wah and the desert canal.

Due to the incident, crops in the command area of the canal in Balochistan will be affected.

No irrigation official was available to comment on the situation. Area people demanded immediate repair of the bridge and the gates to ensure smooth supply of water.

KILLED: A married woman was killed by her brother-in-law in the Mureed Gabol village of the Ghotki district on Sunday.

Rehana, wife of Liaquat Gabol, was working in her house when her brother-in-law Amanat Gabol came to the house. He killed the woman and escaped from the scene.

People of the area said Amanat had a suspicion that his sister-in-law had illicit relations with another person of the community.—Correspondent
