Mystery dumping of medicines
SIALKOT, Jan 1: Despite a lapse of three weeks, the district health department has failed to find any clue to the nasty incident of throwing the government stock of medicines into the river Tavi near Bajwat along the Sialkot Working Boundary. Sialkot DCO Shafqat Ranjha is, however, probing the case. EDO (Health) Dr Khalid Mahmood told newsmen that the probe was still going on. He said the suspects might be among the health department employees or those having links with them.
Three weeks ago, unknown people threw medicines, including life-saving drugs, worth millions of rupees into the river Tavi. These medicines were the district government property bearing the stamps “Not for Sale.”
National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Ameer Husain visited the spot and found the medicines floating in the river. He ordered departmental inquiry and a strict action against the miscreants.
Girl raped: A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped after kidnap by two men here on Saturday night in Tiba Jhaliyan-Naikapura locality.
Police said ‘S’, daughter of trader Javaid Iqbal, was playing near her house when the accused took her to some unknown place and allegedly raped her. Later, they threw her in an adjoining area. The girl was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
When contacted Sialkot DPO Dr Tariq Khokhar told the press that the accused would be arrested soon.
Meanwhile, people have protested against the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the alleged rapists.
KHATEEBS BOOKED: The district police on Sunday registered separate cases against five khateebs on charges of violating Loudspeakers Act.
Those booked are Qari Ashiq Ali, Qari Zulfiqar, Maulana Sarwar Shafiq, Maulana Abdul Aleem and Qari Ghulam Murtaza.
Further investigation is under way.
