ISLAMABAD, Jan 3: A member of the National Assembly from Karachi has sought early opening of Indian consulate in the port city of Pakistan.

“The Pakistan government should allow India to open its consulate in Karachi as early as possible to facilitate the people of Sindh province”, said Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MNA Kunwar Khalid Yunus.

Talking to Dawn here on Tuesday, the MNA said that the people of Sindh were worried about the delay in starting Khokhrapar-Monabao train service despite several announcements by both the governments of India and Pakistan.

Mr Yunus regretted the decision of the Foreign Office that Pakistani consulate in Mumbai and Indian consulate in Karachi would be opened simultaneously.

He said that India had time and again stated that it was ready to open its consulate in Karachi within no time.

The MNA said the people of Karachi and Sindh had to go to Islamabad and Lahore to get Indian visa and travel to India.

He said when the Line of Control in Kashmir could be opened and bus services could be started from Punjab, then why train service could not be started from Sindh. He was of the view that the Foreign Office should take care of the people of all the four provinces while making important decisions.

MNA Yunus asked the government to allow India to open its consulate in Karachi without any delay.
