HYDERABAD, Jan 5: A noted biochemistry scholar of the Nagoya University of Arts and Sciences Japan, Prof (Dr) Yasuo Natori, on Thursday gave a lecture at the Sindh University on “Characterization of Inhibitors of Post Prandial Hyper-Glycemia from the leaves of Nerium Indicum”.
The lecture was organized by the institute of biochemistry under its lecture series programme on biochemistry.
Sindh University vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui presided over the lecture.
Prof Natori said Nerium leaves could be used in treatment of blood pressure and diabetics.
He said that Nerium Indicum plant was introduced to him by Dr Allah Warayo Mohammadi during his first visit to Pakistan in February 2002.
He said the plant Nerium (Gul-e-Zangi) was useful in treatment of diabetic patients.
He said his research on leaves of Nerium would prove helpful in treatment of diabetic and blood pressure patients.
The vice-chancellor urged scientists to discover more plants for treatment of patients suffering from various diseases.
He said for the purpose, research should be conducted on those plants which were available in Jamshoro.
He appreciated the efforts of the institute of biochemistry not only in the field of research but also for creating interest among students to go for biochemistry subject.
