KARACHI: Three of a family among 4 kidnapped

KARACHI, Jan 5: Three persons of a family and a seven-year-old boy were kidnapped by unknown persons in two separate incidents in different parts of the city late on Wednesday night.

The Wednesday’s kidnappings pushed the figure of unsolved kidnapping cases to eight in Karachi.

Police said a businessman Syed Abu Jaffar Zaidi, his son Syed Shoaib Jaffar Zaidi and their relative Syed Qaier Imam had gone to their asphalt plant in Manghopir on Wednesday night.

As they were returning from the plant, they were intercepted by unknown persons. After covering a little distance, the kidnappers dumped the driver, Abdul Razzak, directing him to inform the family to arrange the ransom amount and proceeded towards Hub River Road, police said.

They said that the victims were in the business of road construction.

However, the police said so far no formal ransom call had not been received by family members.

In another kidnapping, a seven year old boy was kidnapped from Gulshan-i-Iqbal late Wednesday night.

Police said that Jawwad Ahmed was kidnapped by unknown persons in Block 13-D Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Police said boy’s father is working as an engineer in WAPDA. Police said on Thursday the family received a ransom call from the kidnappers.

SUICIDE/WOUNDED: A watchman committed suicide after opening fire at the guests where he was employed in Defence area on Thursday.

TPO Clifton said that Omar Daraz told Beenish, 20, to properly cover herself when she was heading for shopping with her husband and mother.

Police said when the watchman was told to mind his own business, he opened fire at the car in which they were sitting and instantly shot himself in the neck with his 12-bore rifle.

Police said Omar Daraz died on the spot while the wounded lady was rushed to hospital where she is stated to in a serious condition, Town Police Officer Clifton Imran Shaukat said.

Victim’s husband who was carrying their child and his mother-in-law escaped unhurt in the firing, police said.

The couple had returned from the US and was staying at their parent’s house in Khayaban-i-Tanzeem in the Defence Housing Authority for the last two weeks.

Police investigations revealed that a few months back, the watchman had turned extremely religious.

SNATCHED: A man was deprived of his car and cellular phone by armed suspects in Model Colony on Thursday.

Complainant, Mr Nazir Mehmood was driving his car (AEC-531) with his family when armed suspects intercepted his car in Model Colony and deprived him of his car and phone.

The suspects who snatched the car were on foot. Mr Mehmood has lodged an FIR with the Model Colony police.
