Bomb hoax delays train departure

Published January 6, 2006

LAHORE, Jan 5: A hoax call delayed the departure of the Shalimar Express by one and-a-half hours on Thursday. The 28-down left the Lahore railway station at 8am instead of its scheduled time of 6:30am. A caller, later identified as Fayyaz, had informed the police helpline (15) that there was a bomb in the train. Lahore division officials were informed by the police around 6am, who stopped the train at the yard and called the Bomb Disposal Squad.

The railways police and the bomb disposal squad screened all the coaches of the train for over an hour, but found nothing.

Meanwhile, the police helpline officials found that Fayyaz had made the call from his cellular phone (No 0300-7930939).

A case has been lodged against Fayyaz with the Naulakha police.
