KARACHI, Feb 16: A local industrialist was whisked away reportedly by the Punjab police from his factory premises in Korangi Industrial Area on Thursday.

According to the victim’s son, Umair Mehmood, initially three plain-clothed men came to the factory asking for Shaikh Khalid Mehmood, owner of the Farooqi Flour Mills.

After confirming his presence in the factory, they called in their remaining associates and around 20 armed men some in police commando uniform held the people inside the factory premises hostage at gunpoint. “They took away my father (Khalid Mehmood, 58),” Umair told Dawn.

Subsequently, the victim’s family lodged an FIR 49/06 under Section 365/34 at the Korangi Industrial Area police station. The Karachi police denied they had picked up Mehmood, the family said.

After hectic search, the family came to know that a DSP of the Punjab police had come along with his force and had taken him away.
