KHAIRPUR: Provision of clean water stressed

KHAIRPUR, Feb 16: A roundtable meeting of political parties held here on Wednesday urged provision of clean drinking water to people.

The meeting was organized under the aegis of the district steering committee of three political parties, Pakistan Muslim League-F, PPP and the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam.

It said the taluka council should have a monitoring system to ensure clean drinking water to people.

Khairpur Taluka Naib Nazim Ehsan Illahi, PPP leader Syed Bachal Shah and JUI leader Mufti Asghar Arain were guest speakers. Shujaat Siddiqui, president of the Rotary Club, Khairpur, Abdul Sattar Mahar of the Umang Development Society, and Yasmin Abro, councillor, also spoke.

Ehsan Illahi said the taluka council was trying to provide clean drinking water to people.

He said PML-F leader Syed Sadaruddin had ordered installation of water filter plants in various areas of the taluka. He said the Asian Development Bank would also fund a scheme to supply clean water to people in the taluka.

The meeting was organized with the cooperation of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and the Indus Resource Centre under the “Political parties capacity building programme”. The programme is being run in 10 districts of the country which is also being supported by the Department for International Development, UK.
