Two TV boosters for Afghanistan
ISLAMABAD, Feb 16: Pakistan would provide two television transmitters to Afghanistan in March this year, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said here on Thursday.
He was talking to Afghan Minister for Information and Culture Dr Sayyed Makhdoom Raheem who called on him.
Sheikh Rashid said Pakistan and Afghanistan enjoyed long-term friendly and brotherly relations and Pakistan had already provided two radio transmitters to Afghanistan.
He said people on both sides would benefit from these transmitters which will be installed in the Afghan province of Kandahar.
He said the boosters would help strengthen relations between the two countries.
Secretary Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Shahid Rafi briefed the Afghan minister on the functioning of various organizations under the ministry.
He said media enjoyed complete freedom in Pakistan and was playing an important role in promotion of democratic norms.
Dr Sayyed Makhdoom Raheem appreciated Pakistan’s cooperation with Afghanistan in its rebuilding and reconstruction. “I consider Pakistan my second home,” Dr Raheem said, recalling the days he had spent in Pakistan.
He said at present four TV channels were operating in Afghanistan and the government was introducing a law to allow private TV channels. “We need to continue working together to promote bilateral relations,” Dr Raheem said. —APP
