BAGHDAD, Feb 18: A US soldier and five Iraqis were killed in bombings on Saturday, while the British military reported that two Macedonians were abducted on Thursday in the southern city of Basra.

In central Baghdad, a US soldier died when his vehicle struck an explosive device, the military said.

In the east of the city, a pair of bombings killed three Iraqi security guards and a policeman, the interior ministry said.

In the first attack, two security guards were wounded. The second bombing targeting a police general’s convoy left one officer wounded. The general escaped unscathed.

And near Baquba, 60 kilometres northeast of Baghdad, a roadside bombing killed one civilian and left five others wounded, police said.

The bodies of two unidentified men, showing marks of torture, were also discovered early on Saturday in southern and western Baghdad. In Kirkuk, two more bodies of men who had been tortured were discovered, police said.—AFP
