Peaceful protests held in Punjab towns
GUJRANWALA, Feb 20: Rallies, strikes and closure of businesses continued but no untoward incident was reported from any part of the province on Monday.
In Gujranwala, activists of the Jamiat Tulaba Islam took out a rally and set effigies on fire on GT Road.
The rally started from Sheranwala Bagh and terminated at the old city railway station. Participants were carrying banners and placards inscribed with anti-US slogans.
The teaching staff and school students also took out a procession from Government Iqbal High School which ended at Gondlanwala Chowk after parading on GT Road. Participants of both rallies dispersed peacefully.
Another rally was taken out in Aimanabad by traders and activists of religious parties. Parading on Wahando-Aimanabad Road, they urged the government to boycott the products of European countries.
While students of Government Degree Girls College of Rahwali also staged a demonstration outside their college which was led by their principal and teaching staff.
Similarly, the ruling PML’s Women Wing also took out a rally in Wazirabad. Carrying banners and placards, they chanted slogans against the European countries.
MIANWALI: A complete strike was observed throughout the district while lawyers also boycotted courts on Monday.
DBA members took out a rally from the District Courts and gathered at Railway Chowk after marching through main roads.
Bar president Liaquat Ali Malik and former president Syed Iqrar Shah in their speeches demanded that the government should sever its ties with Denmark and also boycott its products.
Many other rallies were also taken out from different parts of the town. Their participants later gathered at Mela Ground who formed a big rally. They reached Railway Station after marching through the main bazaars.
A huge police contingent guarded the rally, but no untoward incident took place.
SARGODHA: A large number of lawyers, led by DBA president Chaudhry Naseer Ahmad Cheema and senior lawyer Syed Ghulam Abbas Bukhari, took out a rally here on Monday.
Carrying banners and placards, protesting lawyers marched through various streets and bazaars. They also shouted slogans against Denmark and European newspapers.
SIALKOT: There was a complete shutter down in Pasrur on the appeal of Markazi Anjuman Tajran on Monday. However, no protest procession was taken out on the occasion. Traders in different bazaars and markets displayed banners inscribed with slogans against Denmark and other European countries.
