BZU’s college to have garment workshop

MULTAN, Feb 26: The Bahauddin Zakariya University’s College of Textile Engineering will have a modern garment workshop within a few months to produce skilled low-level management for the cottage industry in the garment sector.

According to Research and Development project director Chaudhry Iqbal, tenders have been issued for the installation of 12 machines at the college and hopefully the facility will be operational within two months.

He said the workshop, to be completed at a cost of Rs2.5 million, would have a facility from fabric cutting to stitching, tailoring and fashion designing. Help from the Multan College of Arts would be sought in fashion designing.

It would help produce low-level management, including supervisors and skilled workers, for the cottage industry and solve their technical problems by offering them consultancy services free of cost. It would also be a worthwhile addition for the ongoing garment engineering and fashion design course in the college.—APP
