KARACHI, March 2: The Managing Director of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Brig Iftikhar Haider, has said laying of new sewerage lines in Liaquatabad C and C-1 areas would improve the disposal of sewerage water.
The MD said this while inspecting the development work in progress in Liaquatabad on Thursday.
The DMD Israr Zaidi, Chief Engineer Zone-II, Asoomal, Superintendent Engineer Shakeel Qureshi, Engineer Laiq Ahmed and others were present.
“Since the establishment of Liaquatabad, there was no proper sewerage system in the area and people were using drains for disposal of sewerage water,” he said.
He said it was the City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, who had taken the initiative and issued directive for laying sewerage lines under the “Tameer-i-Pakistan” programme.
Brig Iftikhar said that work on laying of 12, 15 and 18 inch-dia sewerage lines was in fully swing.
He said the basic demand of the residents of UCs 3 and 4 had been fulfilled. People there had been facing great hardship due to absence of a proper sewerage system.
The MD said a month’s target was given to accomplish the task, but due to round-the-clock work, it would be completed within 15 days. He said the board had already provided connections to 30 houses.—APP
