NEW YORK, March 4: A former Iranian student at the University of North Carolina ploughed his sports utility vehicle through a student gathering spot on the campus on Friday, injuring five students.
Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, 22, who graduated in December, called to surrender and then awaited officers on a street three kilometres from the campus, a police official said.
He would be charged with attempted murder, the official added.
According to an FBI agent, Taheri-azar made statements that he had ‘acted to avenge the American treatment of Muslims’. The five injured students were discharged from hospital after treatment for minor in juries.
