Naqvi century steers Rhinos

Published March 12, 2006

KARACHI, March 11: Skipper Ali Naqvi spanked a brilliant 118 as Abbottabad Rhinos scored a six-wicket victory over Quetta Bears in a high-scoring Silver League match of the National One-day Regional cricket championship in Abbottabad on Saturday.

Naqvi, who shot to prominence with a Test debut century against South Africa eight seasons ago, blasted six sixes and as many fours in his 88-ball knock as the Rhinos reached a daunting target of 315 with five balls to spare.

The result was all the more remarkable since at stage the Rhinos were tottering at 173 for five in the 35th over. But Naqvi and wicket-keeper Ahmed Said then combined to put on a match-winning partnership of 138.
