JSM workers stage hunger strike

KHAIRPUR, March 18: A large number of Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM) activists observed a hunger strike on Saturday at a camp set up on the Court Road to protest against demolition of old villages in Karachi and murder of innocents in fake encounters.

JSM district president Comrade Kamran Durrani and central leader Agha Qamar said the old villages’ demolition, which was carried out to please vested interests, had sent a clear warning to Sindhis that they should not reside and carry on trade in the city.

RALLIES: A number of wireless phone users staged a procession, which coincided with International Consumers Day, to protest what they called delay in issuance of new sets.

The protestors, led by Amjad Lashari, Mohammad Ibrahim Shaikh and Aijaz Bhutto, complained though work on the installation of v-wireless towers and exchange had completed in Pir Jo Goth, Priyaloi, Therhi, Hingorja, Nara, Pakka Chang, and Faiz Ganj, but they had still not got new sets.

They said the private agencies responsible for giving them sets had violated consumer rights.

Meanwhile, a large number of people, representatives of civil organizations, men and women councillors staged a procession on Wednesday against attack on Imdad Khamisani, Ehsan Jumani and Sadar Sheikh.

The procession, carrying placards and banners, marched along station road and Chhatti Chowk before they reached Civic Centre Chowk where they observed a sit-in.

The protesters condemned the attack which they said was made by encroachment inspector and his staff while Imdad, Ehsan and Sadar were in taluka council office.

The protesters, led by Muzaffar Channa, Naeem Tunio, Parvez Baloch, and Fayaz Mashori said the administration had announced it would provide buses to all students to attend Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai but gave buses only to their favourite ones.
