KARACHI, March 18: Pakistani boxers continued their good run in Commonwealth Games contrary to their compatriots competing in other sports when another three of them marched into next rounds of boxing competitions on Saturday at Melbourne.

Promising Mohammad Nisar, Abid Ali and Meherullah were the boxers after Asghar Ali Shah who have confirmed their berths in the next stages of their respective weight categories.

But there was one casualty when Nauman Karim was outpunched by India’s Jitender Kumar in flyweight.

According to details made available here, Nisar brawled his way to a 40-20 points win over Thomas Essomba (Cameroon) in an entertaining, fast- paced fight in the Light Flyweight 48kg.

Nisar took an early lead and continued to get the better of the exchanges throughout the fight. The classy 18-year-old finished strongly to outscore Essomba 17-5 in the fourth and final round.

Abid crushed Gyanendra Kumar of Fiji Islands to cruise into the next rounds of the bantamweight. Abid dominated the scenario throughout the match and was pretty justified with hisone-sided 27-5 triumph over Kumar in the end. Later Meherullah also competing in the same weight outboxed Syrian opponent.

Bad news in the Pakistani boxing camp came when Nauman was brushed aside by Jitender Kumar from India in the flyweight (51kg) division.

Nauman started off well but later on the Indian took control of the proceedings to win the battle 14-5.

Meanwhile, after failing to enter last eight stage in the table tennis team event following their defeat in a crunch tie against Wales, two of the Pakistanis - Farjad Saif and Mohammad Qureshi won their 9-15 classification matches.

Farjad defeated Anthony Brown of Trinidad 12-10, 8-11,11-7, 7-11,11-7 after a five game thriller while Quereshi took less time to outwit Anthony’s compatriot 11-8, 11-8, 11-7.

However another Pakistani, Kashif Razzak failed to win his classification test when he was overcame by another Trinidad player Reeza Burke 11-9, 3-11, 12-10, 6-11, 11-9 in five games.
