Australia recall Gillespie

SYDNEY, April 5: Fast bowler Jason Gillespie was recalled on Wednesday to the Australian Test squad for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Gillespie, who was dropped during last year's Ashes series loss in England, was added to the squad along with fellow paceman Mitchell Johnson and opening batsman Phil Jaques.

The trio were all called up following injuries to Justin Langer, Shaun Tait and Michael Kasprowicz on the tour of South Africa, which ended on Tuesday.

“Our advice was that the (injured) players would be definitely unavailable for the first test and maybe the second too,” Australia's chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said in a statement.

“Given that it is only a two-Test series, we thought it would be in the best interests of the players concerned to give them a full recovery.

“We also felt it was important to have a squad in Bangladesh who were all available for the first Test.

“The three players who are coming into the squad have performed very well in domestic cricket and deserve their opportunity to tour.”

Gillespie has captured 251 wickets in 69 Tests but has not played for Australia since the third Ashes Test in August.
