SIALKOT, April 9: As many as 37 illegal private educational institutions will be closed down here by the management of the Cantonment Board in its jurisdiction on Monday (today). The step has been decided after the failure of month-long negotiations between the owners of these institutions and the Cantonment Board management. The deadline for the closure of these illegal institutions expires on April 10.

Reports said the board had declared these institutions, set up in residential buildings, as illegal about a month ago, and served notices on their owners. These institutions include private school and academies where, according to an estimate, about 10,000 students were registered.

The closure of the institutions would adversely affect the academic career of the students for whom most of the owners had no alternative arrangement, office-bearers of the Private Schools Owners Association said while expressing concern over the board’s decision. They termed it denial of basic rights of the students.

POLICEMEN BOOKED: The Uggoki police have registered a case against ASI Azam and inspector Abdullah, deputed at the Green Town police station, Lahore, for extorting Rs7,000 from Rehmat Ali for the registration of a case.

The Daska city police have registered a case against two constables, Mohammad Boota and Abdul Qadus, for snatching Rs15,000 from Zaibunnisa and her cousin, Abdul Rehman, in Model Town about a week ago.

The city police have registered a case against constable Imran Akram, deputed at the Motra police station, for stealing Rs19,500 in cash from the house of his neighbour, Kausar Bibi, in Islampura locality.
