KARACHI: People urged to join in protest day

KARACHI, April 13: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has appealed to people to join in the protest day on Friday by participating in peaceful demonstrations to be held throughout Sindh against the bombing at Nishtar Park that left more than 50 religious scholars and other people dead and many more injured.

Senior MMA leader Dr Mumtaz Ali Memon, who is also the Sindh chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, said in a statement issued here on Thursday that anti-Islam forces and their local agents were behind the killings of religious scholars for their ulterior motives. However, he said, they would not succeed in their nefarious designs.

Earlier, speaking at a meeting at Quba Auditorium here, he termed the Nishtar Park attack ‘a well-conceived conspiracy’ aimed at creating rift among various schools of thought within the Ummah.

The same was being done in Iraq and other parts of the world, he pointed out, and called upon ulema to remain united and peaceful.

He said it was the responsibility of the government to unearth the conspiracies behind the martyrdoms of Mufti Shamzai, Aslam Mujahid, Mufti Jamil, Munawar Suhrawardi and other ulema and political leaders, besides arresting those involved in hatching and executing the assassination plots.

The MMA leader criticised the government for declaring Nishtar Park bomb blast ‘a suicide attack’, and said that by doing so, the government was trying to escape from its responsibility of investigating and taking action against the culprits.

JUP: Shah Faridul Haq, chief of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, has said that the rulers should step down for their failure to ensure safety and security of citizens.

Addressing a big congregation at Darul Uloom Amjadia here on Thursday, he accused the rulers of working on eliminating all religious seminaries to appease their foreign masters.

Prof Mazhar Saeed Kazmi, Allama Syed Hussainuddin Shah, Allama Syed Riaz Hussain Shah, Pir Ameenul Hasnat, Mufti Muneebur Rehman, Shah Turabul Haq Qadri and others also spoke on the occasion.

Mufti Muneebur Rehman deplored provincial government for its indifferent attitude and declared that the religious scholars and leaders would not attend any government-sponsored meeting unless reservations of ulema were addressed.

He appealed to citizens for making the Friday (April 14) strike a success, and also impressed upon the supporters to avoid taking any step on their own.—PPI
