KARACHI: Sunni Tehrik refuses to withdraw ultimatum
KARACHI, April 13: The Sunni Tehrik, which lost many of its top leaders in the Nishtar Park blast on Tuesday, has refused to withdraw its 48-hour ultimatum of the new course of action if the government failed to arrest and punish the culprits of the bombing.
The caretaker chairman of the Tehrik, Shahid Ghauri, is reported to have told the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Ejazul Haq, who visited the ST’s headquarters along with the home secretary, CCPO Karachi and other high- ranking officials to condole the death of ST leaders, that the situation might take any untoward turn if the government failed to meet the deadline.
The leaders present at the meeting complained that the government had failed to arrest those involved in the killings of ST leaders and activists in the past.
They also demanded immediate clearance of the ‘no-go’ areas meant to prevent entry of ST members.
Speaking on the occasion, Federal Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said that the shameful act could definitely have not been resorted to by any Muslim.
He told the caretaker ST leadership that effective investigation on scientific lines was being conducted jointly by the federal and provincial governments, and assured it that facts would surface soon.—-Online
