HYDERABAD, April 13: Life across the interior of Sindh remained paralysed the second day on Thursday in protest against the Nishtar Park carnage.
In parts of Hyderabad, shops opened in the morning, but angry youths came out on roads and forced the shopkeepers to close their businesses.
Some people resorted to aerial firing in Chotki Ghitti area, which created harassment and tension.
Hyderabad police has increased patrolling in three urban talukas of Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad DPO Ali Ahmed Junejo held a meeting with religious leaders and appealed for maintaining law and order in the city and foil evil designs of miscreants.
He condemned the Nishtar Part tragedy and said the incident had also affected police officials and government servants as they were an integral part of the nation.
He appealed to the religious leaders to keep an eye on the people who always exploited national tragedies to fulfil their nefarious.
Leaders attending the meeting included Alhaj Gulshan-i-Illahi (Jamat Ahl-i-Sunnat), Abdul Waheed Qureshi (MNA), Shaikh Shaukat Ali (Jamaat-i-Islami), Dr Abdul Samad (Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf), Maulana Azam Jehangiri (Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F) and others.
The Hyderabad taluka council held a special session and condemned the Nishtar Park explosion. Council members prayed for the people died in the incident.
Women wing of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement held Quran Khwani for the victims of Nishtar Park.
SUKKUR: A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Sukkur, Rohri, Pano Akil, Kandhra and adjoining areas, while partial strike was observed in Ghotki, Mirpur Mathelo, Ubauro, Daharki, Khairpur, Ranipur, Pir Jo Goth, Kandiaro, Sakrand, Naushahro Feroze, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kandhkot, Kashmore, Guddu, Buxapur, Budani and Thull.
Local chapters of the Sunni Tehrik and Jamaat Ahl-i-Sunnat took out protest procession in different areas.
In Sukkur, the main business centres and bazaars, including, Clock tower, Gharib Abad, Shaheed Ganj, Sarrafa Bazaar, Frere Road, Shahi Bazaar, Minara Road and Queens Road remained close.
Police resorted to baton-charge when a scuffle broke out between protesting workers of the Sunni Tehrik in Gharibabad, Mehran Markaz and Clock Tower. During the action, the police arrested six protesters, but released them later.
Meanwhile, the Sunni Tehreek held an emergency meeting, presided over by Maulana Noor Ahmed Qasmi. It strongly condemned the bomb blast of Nishter Park, Karachi, and said that such terrorist attacks could not bring an end to the struggle of the Tehrik.
The meeting decided to take out protest procession after Juma prayers from Ghousia Masjid.
It said the protest movement would continue till the ouster of the Sindh government and arrest of the terrorist.
TANDO MOHAMMAD KHAN: On the call of the Jamaat Ahl-i-Sunnat, Mehmoodia Qadria of Tando Mohammad Khan, a shutter-down strike was observed.
Thousands of people, belonging to different religious parties, took out a procession and staged a sit-in on Phulelli road.
Jamaat Ahl-i-Sunnat leaders Mohammad Azam Leghari and District Bar Association president Abdul Hakeem Memon spoke on the occasion.
Tando Ghulam Hyder, Bulri Shah Karim and Tando Muhammad Khan talukas of the district also remained closed in protest. Zila Nazim Mir Inayat Ali Talpur has asked police to remain on high alert.
SANGHAR: A protest procession was taken out from Dilbar chowk, which, after marching on different roads, culminated at the local press club.
Speaking to protesters, local leaders Ghulam Nabi Mansoori, Maulana Habibullah Channa, Master Sher Mohammad and UC Nazim Murad Ali Nizamani condemned the Karachi bomb blast.
However, all the business activities remained normal throughout the district.
MIRPURKHAS: All markets, business centres, petrol pumps and hotels remained closed.
Some youths burnt tyres and let off crackers at different places of the city. Traffic in the city remained thin.
Strict security arrangements were made in the district to avert any untoward incident. Police were deployed at sensitive places and entry and exit routes of the city.
The Sindh Paramedical Staff Welfare Association held Ghaibana Nimaz-i-Janaza of the blast victims. Association general secretary Zakir Hussain was also killed in the Nishtar Park. Quran Khwani and Fateha Khwani were held at different places in the city.
A strike was also observed in Mirwah Gorchani, Digri, Tando Jan Mohammad, Jhuddo, Naukot, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Kunri, Samaro, Umerkot, Pithoro, Shadi Palli and adjoining areas.
DADU: A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Johi, Dadu, Bhan Syedabad, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Mehar and Jamshoro towns. The Local Sunni Tehrik chapter took out a procession that marched on different roads of the city and staged demonstration outside the Dadu Press Club. Maulana Azeem Mahessar and Maulana Abdul Waheed Qureshi were leading protesters.
SHIKARPUR: Bazaars and business centres of Garhi Yaseen, Dakhan and the adjoining areas remained closed in protest.
The activists of the Jamaat Ahl-i-Sunnat took out processions in different towns. A large number of citizens participated in protest demonstrations to express solidarity with the families of victims.
They blocked the Larkana-Shikarpur road for two hours, demanding early arrest of the culprits.
JACOBABAD: Reports reaching here from Jacobabad said a complete shutter-down strike was observed in the district.
