‘Pakistan well prepared for World Cup’
KARACHI, April 13: Pakistan's leg spinner Danish Kaneria believed that his team was progressing in the right direction towards the next year's World Cup campaign and its confidence was high after couple of successful One Day International sand Test series since last few months.
“I feel we are peaking at just the right time with the World Cup just ahead of us. Our confidence is very high and the other great thing is our motivation that boosted further after successive triumphs in recent series,” said Kanieria in an interview on Thursday.
Kaneiria who recently claimed his 150th Test victim in Sri Lanka said that Pakistan's Test and ODIs victories in their last tour of Sri Lanka in both one dayers and Test matches was vital and has boosted team's confidence for its next tour of England.
The Karachi-based spinner was also satisfied with his own performance in Sri Lanka where he took eight wickets in two Test matches.
“I enjoyed bowling on the pitches over there and I was pleased to go past 150 wickets in Test cricket. That was a very big achievement for me, especially to take those eight wickets in the two Tests against such good batsmen.”
He said that home ODI series loss against arch rivals India was the only negative aspect of Pakistan's recent performance but said that it came after number of core players missed the series due to injuries.
“Three Test series wins against England, India and Sri Lanka showed the good progress the team is making. We are also playing very well in one-day cricket also, and although we lost the series against India when we had some key players missing, we are looking good as we approach the World Cup,” he said.
Danish was also confident that he would find berth in the Pakistani side for the World Cup in West Indies by playing some good cricket.
He said that team's tour of England after Abu Dhabi one dayers against India was very important for the team and successful tour will further enhance motivation of the team before the most prestigious cricket tournament next year.—Agencies
