KARACHI, April 14: After the suspension of academic activities for three days, all the educational institutions in the city will resume activities on Saturday.
A source in the government said that the authorities had decided not to order further closure of educational institutions in the province and as such institutions would open as usual from April 15.
Following a blast during Miladun Nabi (SAW) celebrations at the Nishtar Park on April 11, which claimed 47 lives, Sindh governor and the Sindh education secretary, had directed the varsities, colleges and schools in the government and private sectors to suspend academic activities, including conduct of exams, from April 12 to 14.
In view of the fact that majority of the private schools observe weekly holidays on Saturday as well, educational circles noted that activities in schools would get momentum from Monday onwards.
In the wake of mourning as announced by the Sindh government on April 11, the University of Karachi and the DUHS had to postpone a couple of theory and practical exams as well.
Syed Anwar Zaidi, the KU controller of exams, said on Friday that BSc physiotherapy exams would be held as per schedule given earlier from Saturday onwards, while MBBS (final professional) exams would resume on April 17. He said that the dates for conduct of MBBS and physiotherapy papers, which could not be held from April 12 to 14, would be announced in a day or so.
In the meantime, the DMC has announced that pathology practical exams scheduled for April 12 and 13 would be held on April 15 and April 17 respectively. According to Sindh Medical College officials, practical exams of community medicines scheduled for April 12 to 14 would now be held from April 15 onwards.
