MITHI, April 14: The district council of Tharparkar has urged the government to open utility stores in the taluka headquarters towns of Mithi, Diplo, Nagarparkar and Chhachhro to ensure that people get items of daily use at reasonable prices.
Tabling a resolution in a council session, Abdul Subhan Sangrasi contended that recurrence of drought in the barani region has alarmingly reduced the purchasing power of the people, consequently, they are unable to buy items of daily use which are selling at high prices in the market.
The government, therefore should establish utility stores at least in four taluka headquarters towns, he said.
A number of members, including Guman Singh, Arbab Abdul Malik and Kirshan participated in the debate.
They said that people of Thar frequently hit by calamities found it difficult to purchase event basic goods of daily needs.
The district council unanimously adopted the resolution.
Through another resolution, Kirshan Lal said that a large number of trees were chopped every year and the wood was used as fuel.
This trend was badly affecting the environment. To lessen the miseries of the people, he suggested that gas connections be provided to the residents of Mithi, Diplo and other major towns.
The council passed a resolution and urged the government for immediate gas connections.
Through another resolution, the council demanded water supply schemes for Jese Jo Paar, Mehiar, Joglario, Karangri Saeen Chhaho villages.
They urged the Sindh government to sanction wells for Taar Samejo, Udani, Sirajdin Taar, Asan Ji Dhani villages and Khohano (Davarkopara).
Through yet another resolution, it demanded installation
of tube-wells in the Sattar
village and link roads from Nagarparkar to Saradro, Taho Bheel, Kumbha Veri, Bughar to Godhiar, Loondhaar to Mithrao Daal.
The council, through another resolution, condemned the killing of Sunni Tehrik leaders and other ulema and activists in the Nishtar Park bomb blast.
