MIRPURKHAS: Probe into complaint of torture begins

MIRPURKHAS, April 14: A team has begun a probe into a case of illegal custody and torture of Naeem Arain and Hashim Jarwar. Appointed by the chief minister, the team, comprising Syed Hassan Shah Bukhari and former DIG Karachi Farooque Amin Qureshi, is investigating misuse of authority by four SHOs and some other officials.

It arrived here on Thursday and recorded statement of Raja Fazlur Rehman, SP investigation Umerkot and inquiry officer in the case.

Three doctors of civil hospital Mirpurkhas Dr Jawahar Lal, Dr Ayaz Khoso and Dr Ali Gohar submitted their written statements.

A team of doctors from Hyderabad conducted medical examination of the victims. They obtained information from TPO Mirpurkhas city Qamar Shaikh, SP Investigation Mirpurkhas Abdul Hussain Qadri and Inspector Bhooro Mal Khatri.

A few weeks ago after complaints of Naeem Arain and Hashim Jarwar, DIG Mirpurkhas Salimullah Khan had ordered an inquiry into the allegation and appointed SP investigation Umerkot as inquiry officer.

His report found four SHOs and other police officials guilty and recommended lodging of an FIR against them.

OATH: First Additional Sessions Judge and Returning Officer taluka Mirpurkhas Mohammad Yamin has administered oath to Shafique Ahmed, naib taluka nazim Mirpurkhas, on Thursday.
