4 held for gemstones theft

MUZAFFARABAD, April 14: Police have arrested four members of a gang involved in the theft of precious gemstones from the office of Azad Kashmir Mineral and Industrial Development Corporation in February 2004.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Investigations, Raja Nasim Khan, said on Friday that said Riyasat Butt of Taxila, Ashraf of Faisalabad, Ghauri of Mian Chunnu and Fayyaz of Garhi Dupatta had been arrested. Sapphires worth about Rs2.5 million were stolen from the corporation’s office.—Staff Correspondent
