Security alert for Easter

LAHORE, April 14: More than 2,000 policemen have been deployed outside 423 churches in the city in connection with Easter.

Presiding over a meeting here on Friday, DIG Operations Aamir Zulifqar said that foolproof security arrangements had been made to give the Christian community a sense of security while celebrating the religious festival.

He said besides policemen, tiger and mobile squads would also be on patrol duty. He said duty officials would be provided with metal detectors.

GANG: The Lower Mall police claimed to have arrested five members of Machi gang of robbers and recovered cash, gold ornaments, cell phones and other valuables worth over Rs200,000 and illegal weapons from their possession.

They were identified as Ali Hasan (ring leader), Rafaqat, Babar, Munir and Haseeb. — Staff Reporter
