LAHORE, April 14: Asmat Ali grabbed second gold medal for Army, winning the 40km Individual road time trials in the 55th national cycling championship on Friday.

Asmat, who won a gold medal in the 4km race on Thursday showed stamina and technique to cover the distance in 53 min 25.36 secs to come first. Now Army and Wapda have won two gold medals each.

Abdul Ahad of Sui Southern Gas touched the finishing line after 27 seconds to claim the silver medal.

Dilsher Ali’s (Wapda) performance was marred due to a fault in his bicycle as he romped home in 54min 37.10 sec to earn a bronze medal.

Haroon Rashid of Wapda also remained in trouble due to a fault in his bicycle and he finished fifth.

On Saturday, 100km road cycle race will be held at Harbanspura.

The cyclists from Wapda, Army, Railways, Sui Southern Gas, POF and four provinces will compete.
