Navy war college at Jati Umra

LAHORE, April 15: The Pakistan Navy will establish a war college at Jati Umra in near future. Disclosing this while addressing participants in the Third Correspondence Course at the Pakistan Navy War College (PNWC), Shahrah-i-Quaid-i-Azam here on Saturday, Naval Staff Vice Chief Vice Admiral Muhammad Haroon said a proposal for the establishment of a new war college had been discussed with Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool and he had assured his full support for acquisition of land for it.

He said the Pakistan Navy was also planning establishment of a Strategic Institute for Maritime Affairs which would host intellectuals for interaction with various fora and holding seminars for developing a better understanding of maritime sector in Pakistan.

Highlighting contemporary maritime security challenges confronting Pakistan, he said seas acting as global trade highways were the common heritage of mankind. He said the sea trade highways were at more risk today than any time in human history.

He called upon the graduating officers to continue their efforts for achieving higher professional excellence for meeting the maritime challenges effectively as they stood more educated on matters of national security, international relations and contemporary military operations.

Earlier, PNWC Commandant Commodore M. Fahim Khan highlighted the key academic activities undertaken by the graduating officers. The vice chief of naval staff later awarded certificates to the graduating officers.
