LAHORE, April 15: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has reportedly asked his partymen to complete the PML re-organisation by August so that preparations for the next general elections can be started.
He issued the direction while presiding over a meeting on the party re-organisation at his secretariat here on Saturday.
Sources said the chief minister wanted his partymen to wrap up the campaign by August so as to get ample time for seeking public support for the elections scheduled to be held next year.
He asked all the ministers to complete their visits to their respective constituencies after which he would tour all the districts to further speed up the membership campaign. He would address party conventions in all the districts in which maximum participation of workers would be ensured.
He said the PML re-organisation would be completed before the internal (party) elections. He said reports regarding the party membership of all the districts should be submitted to him so that he could have all information before visiting a district.
All the PML committees should leave Lahore and visit other cities to accelerate the membership process, he stressed, adding that special perks would be announced for party workers in every future convention of the PML.
The chief minister said the membership of new workers should be genuine. Complete bio data, including national identity card numbers, of new members should be mentioned in the membership forms, and their participation in party activities must be ensured.
He said all the wings of the party would be strengthened with regard to the re-organisation of the PML, asking all assembly members and nazims to further fortify the party.
He said the workers and leaders of other parties who had joined the PML were now a part and parcel of it and, therefore, everyone must respect them.
Pervaiz Elahi said all the ongoing development projects would soon be completed. The assembly members and office-bearers of the PML must let the people know about the projects being completed for their welfare so that they could realise their importance.
Local Government and Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja said all the ministers and MPAs must get problems of workers resolved during their visits to their home constituencies. The PML offices must be turned into focal points of all political activities in their respective constituencies, he said. Communication minister Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Lahore nazim Mian Amer Mahmood, who is also the PML Punjab senior vice-president, tourism minister Mian Aslam Iqbal, revenue minister Gul Hameed Rokhri and other PML office-bearers were present.
