LAHORE, April 16: A useful contribution of 42 points from Asmat Ali helped Army win the 55th national cycling championship with a total of 184 points on Sunday.
Asmat was declared the national champion.
Wapda, who had lost the top position last year, after reigning for 11 years, gave a close fight to the champions to end up as runners-up with 175 points.
Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) earned third place with 76 points, followed by Railways (25 points) and Punjab (nine points).
On the final day, top three teams claimed one gold medal, each.
Army won the 4km team pursuit clocking four min 46.40 secs. Wapda clinched second position, covering the distance in four mins 51.15 secs while SSGC remained third.
In the 1km sprint, Noor Alam of SSGC claimed first position. In the best of three competition he defeated Nasir Hussain (Army) 2-0. In the first sprint both Noor and Nasir remained equal.
Noor was declared the fastest cyclist.
Sakhawat Ali, also of Army, claimed third place.
In the last event, Dilsher Ali of Wapda grabbed first position winning the elimination race.
Sakhawat Ali and Nasir Hussain both from Army remained second and third.
