KARACHI: Two more firemen die

KARACHI, April 20: Two more firemen died here on Thursday raising the death toll to three in the SITE PMT blast. Sub-Fire Officer Mohammad Aqueel and fireman Zubair Ahmed, admitted to the Burns Ward of the Civil Hospital, breathed their last early in the morning. Earlier, on Wednesday, a fireman Sher Ahmed died when the PMT exploded while the fire fighters were putting out fire in SITE.

The funeral prayers of Aqueel and Zubair were offered on the premises of the SITE Fire Station on Thursday and they were buried in a local graveyard.

Naib City Nazim Nasreen Jalil accompanied by SITE town Nazim Izhar Khan, Chairman fire brigade and civil defence Ahsan Siddiqui, DO (HRM) Masood Alam, Chief Fire Officer Kazim Ali, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Naeem Yusuf, and others visited the residences of the deceased and condoled with the family members of the deceased.

She on behalf of the City Nazim Mustafa Kamal announced Rs300,000 for the family of each deceased and one relative of the deceased would be recruited in the fire brigade department.

However, sources said that the family of Moin, a fireman, who had lost his life a year back, is waiting for the fulfilment of a promise by the city government officials.
