KARACHI: ‘Conspiracy hatched to trigger sectarian riots’

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 24: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that terming the Nishtar Park tragedy sectarian violence is a conspiracy to trigger sectarian riots.

He was talking to a group of journalists during his visit to the bereaved families of ulema, who were killed in Nishtar Park blast. “Failure of the government to identify killers of ulema even after lapse of two weeks is a proof of incompetence of the rulers. They don’t want to find out the killers and want to keep it a mystery to cover up the incident,” he pointed out and said that the opposition had decided to remove Gen Musharraf.

Mr Ahmad, who is also the chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, after arrival at Karachi airport went straight to Darul Uloom Amjadia where he offered condolences to Sahibza Muhammad Rehan Amjadi, Sahibzada Ikramul Mustafa Azmi, Allama Muhammad Rafique Abbasi, JUP leader Qazi Ahmad Noorani and others. He also offered Fateha for the victims of the tragic incident.

He also called on leader of Islami Tehreek Allama Hasan Turabi and inquired details of the attack. Condemning the attack on Allama Turabi, he said that Nishtar Park blast was continuation of the same.

The MMA chief said that killing such a large number of eminent religious scholars on the eve of Eid Miladun Nabi was a big shock for the nation. He said that over 29 police officials were killed in Karachi but killers were not identified yet and the FIRs were lodged against unknown persons.

Accusing the government of patronising killers, terrorists and extortionists in Karachi, MMA chief said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was fully involved in killing and plunder incidents in the city, as Gen Musharraf had given free hand to the MQM for creating anarchy whose policies were responsible for anarchy in the country.

He said that Gen Musharraf had deployed army against the people of Balochistan. In tribal areas too, army soldiers and inhabitants were being killed daily. He said that army instead of facing the enemy had taken up arms against patriotic Pakistanis because of the pro-US policy of the Musharraf regime.

He said that there was consensus among the MMA and the ARD that Gen Musharraf ought to resign and the 1973 Constitution should be restored to its Oct 12, 1999 position.

He said that the government had also failed to arrest killers of Mufti Yusuf Ludhiyanvi, Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai, Mufti Muhammad Jamil and Mufti Attiqur Rehman. He said that ulema were being targeted during the regime of Gen Musharraf. He said that there was no justification for such government to rule if Muslims were not safe even on Eid Miladun Nabi. In fact, he said, the Nishtar Park tragedy was a conspiracy to sabotage the Namoos-i-Mustafa (SAW) Movement and to pit Muslims against each other. The MMA would not leave victims of Nishtar Park alone and would strive to bring their killers to book and the Namoos-i-Mustafa Movement would continue and conspirators would fail, he added.

Referring to the US stance on nuclear programme of Iran, he said that people of Pakistan fully supported the policies of Iranian President Ahmadinejad and all their sympathies were with the Iranian government.

Later, he visited Liaquat National Hospital where he met ANI chief Tariq Mehboob and Maulana Abdul Wahab Qadri.

The MMA chief also went to the residence of the three brothers who were killed in the blast and offered condolence to their family. He also met the family of JUP leader late Hafiz Taqi and offered condolence.
