KARACHI, April 24: A senior citizen at a press conference alleged that the Karachi Building Control Authority demolished his authorised structure without giving any prior notice after he had refused to pay extortion money to some influential.

At the Karachi Press Club here on Monday, Mohammad Hussain Mohammad Siddique told journalists that he came back to his native country after 27 years from abroad and he purchased a shop to initiate his own business in Sea Breeze Heights approved by the KBCA.

He showed all the relevant papers about the legal purchase of the shop when he was asked to pay one million rupees as extortion money. He said that they razed parts of his shop forcibly. Later, he said, he lodged an FIR against Noor Ali Shah, Fayyaz Shah, Sherdil, Tufail, Saleem Rana, and Daud. However, the suspects influenced the police, who produced evidence against him in the court. But, the court had ordered the police to re-investigate the case.

On April 21, KBCA officials in a surprise move demolished his shop without any prior notice. He said that he had showed legal papers but the officials did not stop the operation. He appealed to the governor, chief minister, home minister, IGP and other officials to initiate inquiry into the matter and take stern action against those found responsible.
