Free meal wins freedom

RAWALPINDI, April 24: A wounded and handcuffed man accused of drug trafficking escaped from the Rawalpindi General Hospital on Monday after entertaining his Anti-Narcotics Force guards home- made food laced with intoxicants.

Police told Dawn that accused Abdul Rehman was hit by a bullet in his leg in an encounter with Anti-Narcotics Force and arrested near Attock about two weeks ago. He was put in hospital guarded by two ANF personnel.

On Sunday night, relatives of Abdul Rehman brought him food which he offered to the guards who fell unconscious after taking it.

“With the guards incapacitated, the accused Abdul Rehman, who was lying in bed due to his leg injury, took the keys from guards, unlocked his handcuffs and escaped,” the ANF regional deputy director Colonel Wasif said.—Staff Reporter
